Water enters from the street and passes through a sediment pre-filter.

A metered control valve sends it through catalytic carbon media, which adsorbs chlorine, chloramine and disinfection byproducts.

Ion-exchange resin swaps calcium and magnesium for sodium, removing hardness.

The valve regenerates on a schedule based on actual water use, not a fixed timer, so salt use stays low.

A bypass valve lets you isolate the system for service without shutting off the house.

Do I need a whole-home filter if my utility says the water is safe?
Utility water in the DMV meets federal standards. A whole-home system is about comfort and cost: no scale, no chlorine smell, and appliances that last. Health-related contaminants like lead and PFAS are handled at the drinking tap by reverse osmosis.
Will it lower my water pressure?
A correctly sized system does not. We size the tank and valve for your home's peak flow, which matters most in larger homes with several bathrooms.
How much salt does it use?
A metered valve regenerates only when the resin is actually exhausted. A typical family of four in Fairfax Water territory uses one or two 40-pound bags a month.
What maintenance is required?
Keep the brine tank stocked with salt and change the sediment pre-filter every 6 to 12 months. Carbon media lasts several years before it needs a rebed. We offer an optional annual service visit.
Does it remove chloramine?
Yes. Fairfax Water, Arlington, DC Water, Loudoun Water and Prince William Water all disinfect with chloramine, which standard carbon barely touches. Every whole house system we install uses catalytic carbon, the media that actually breaks it down.
